Safety, rules and what to bring
The rules that keep the sea safe, and the ones that cost money if you break them.
Every operator here is licensed by the Dubai Maritime Authority and every rider wears a life jacket. The gear is checked, the guide carries a radio, and the coastguard is rarely more than a few minutes away. Water sports in Dubai are safe; the incidents that happen are almost always speed near the shore or near swimmers.
The rules. Stay behind the guide. Keep at least 100 metres from the beach and from anyone in the water; 300 metres from Burj Al Arab's own zone. No wake inside the marina channels. No riding after sunset. The coastguard enforces this with fines that start around AED 500 and the rental company passes them to the rider, so the briefing matters.
Ages. Drivers 16 and over with a parent's consent under 18; passengers from about six with a parent. Flyboarding from 12; parasailing from six with an adult.
Health. Not for pregnant guests or anyone with back, neck or heart problems; jet skis bounce.
What to bring. Swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, sunglasses with a strap, a waterproof phone pouch on a lanyard if you want photos on the water. Most bases have lockers, showers and photographers who follow the tour, with photo packages for AED 100 to 200. Leave valuables at the hotel.
